FREE – Lunchtime Mobile Ski Library @ Southwood Circle (Next to the U of M)
Everyone welcome.
Its simple, sign up, come ski. FREE. We’ve got the gear. You’ve got the time and the motivation. Conveniently located within walking distance or a short drive from the U of M campus, this is a unique chance to check out a beautiful greenspace and experience the joy of winter.
1. IMPORTANT: Getting here.
Follow this Google Maps pin carefully.
Enter off Sifton Road.
See this reference map:
It will feel like you are entering a construction zone, because you are!
Southwood Circle is a former golf course now being developed as a sustainable housing development adjacent to the University. Skiers are some of the first allowed to explore. It can be a little confusing to get here, as there has been a lot of construction, including new road work being done on University Crescent. But its also a very neat place to ski.
DO NOT search “Southwood Circle” on Google Maps: it will lead you to a real estate office on campus. Ask us how we know… :/
Trust us, you’ll make it here.
Look for “XC experience signs” and arrows all over.
3. Staying Warm – we have fire: Yup it’s chilly. It is remarkably warm in the sunshine though and just fine if you’re moving. But we thought we should let you know that we also have warm fire(s), a warming area by the boots, wind shelters, and even a sauna! There is also complimentary coffee, cider and hot chocolate. You can also dance of course, see below.
4. Yes, there is a Sauna: Sauna is first come first serve. We recommend bringing your own towel if you would like to have a sauna. We have a few on hand only. Sign up when you arrive.
5. DJs on Friday. We are excited to have two awesome artists. Alpha Toshineza and Wanda G will be on the decks just for us. for the Friday lunch and sunset sessions. See poster below.
This has historically been our most popular WinterPeg event! It sure was the last time we hosted it …So popular we turned a day only into a whole series. Last time, +970 people signed up to ski over a three day period!!
People came from the university and all over the city. This one was especially popular among the many visiting students, eager to try winter activities. Let’s see if we can break that record!
There is an (optional) warming hut and sauna. There are potties on site. Dress in layers and bring a mitts toque and you’ll have a great time. We’ll give you a few tips if you need them. Snowshoes and kicksleds also available.
