SNÖFEST- LOPPET & Outdoor fun for all ages at the Assiniboine Park
When: Sunday, February 1 from 1:00-4:00 pm
Meeting point: Indoor shelter at the Assiniboine Park beside the Cargo bar by the Duck Pond.
What: The Swedish Association and the Winnipeg Trails Association celebrating outdoor winter activities. A free public event. No registration required. Everybody is welcome to join us.
What to wear: Dress warm. Wear something fun that is Scandinavian or Viking themed.
What to bring: Please bring skis, kicksleighs, ice skates or walking boots, if you have them! But we got you covered if you don’t!
What you can rent/borrow: Equipment rental such as skis, skates, kick sleighs (sparks), sleds, and snowshoes by donation to the Winnipeg Trails Association.
Activities:
– Don’t miss the Loppet (a festive, community-focused cross-country skiing event) starts at 2 pm
– Kicksleighs available to try out
– Snowman-building fun
After outdoors activities, we will return to the Duck pond shelter for some Swedish Blueberry soup and pepparkakor (gingerbread cookies) listening to ABBA music. Additional food and beverages can be purchased at the Cargo bar.
You can stay in the shelter by the Duck Pond all the time, if you prefer to stay indoors.
We’ll wrap up at 4 pm, but you are welcome to stay for a screening of a Finnish movie being shown on a big screen outside by the Duck Pond, which starts at 5 pm.
